Case Study : Click Recruit

INTRODUCTION

Click Recruit is a web-based database driven vacancy/candidate matching system. Instead of using key word searching as most other recruitment web sites, it uses direct matching on a number of criteria such as Job Position, Salary, Location, Work Skills, etc. Candidates can enter a CV in any of the sectors that are currently defined on the system (accountancy, IT, etc), Employers can enter any number of vacancies within any of the defined Sectors. Extensive use of email is made to alert both Candidates and Employers that some sort of Action requires there attention on the site.

CONTRIBUTION

The contributors to this site are either Candidates looking for a job or Employers with a vacancy to fill. Both types of contributors have to enter their individual requirements into data driven forms split across a number of pages. As the entry is built up then the contributory is given an indication of how they are progressing. The pages are saved individually so that CVs and Vacancies can be built up over a number of sessions if required.

ADMINISTRATION/EDITORIAL

The complete administration of the database is controlled through web pages. All of the content of both the CVs or Vacancies forms are held in tables within a master database, lists such as Job Positions, skills etc are all sector based such that if an employer wants to enter a vacancy in the Accounting sector they are presented with a different list of Job Positions than if they had an IT related position.

In this way the site can cope with a growing number of sectors at the control of the Site Administrators. This principal will soon be extended to similar sectors in different countries having their own Job Positions in their native language.

PRESENTATION

The whole site has been designed for ease of use, particularly the form based CV and Vacancy entry, virtually all information can be entered using the Click of a mouse with the minimum of text entry.

All elements of design, colour, fonts, images etc are either held in the database or as styles so that the re-presentation of the same forms with a different look and feel is very easily achieved.

TECHNOLOGIES

The Click Recruit Websites employs the following technologies:

" MS SQL Server 7 - Click Recruit uses highly normalised database for both efficient data storage and speed of data retrieval. Bench marking has been done by writing applications to emulate the mass entry of CVs at the same time as the matching of vacancies to ensure performace criteria.

" ASP Client - For this project both interfaces are written as ASP Browser clients, the primary reason was that all the users of the system could be either at home or at work and that simplicity of the client was paramount.
